It had always been a passion of mine to open a vintage toy shop and it all started with a Polly Pocket I found at a car boot. I don’t know why I bought it as we had already sold our daughters, but I fell in love with them. This then expanded with Sylvanian Families and other toys I liked the look of and then it just sort of grew. I guess I just loved small toys! I started selling on-line and had quite a large client base overseas. I wanted a shop but never thought it would come into fruition.
VTB opened in September 2019 in a very small unit in a courtyard alongside The Antique Centre in Ely Street, which we just stumbled across one day. In 2020, despite the pandemic, we doubled the size of the unit (though it was still quite small) and in 2022 we took on another small unit opposite. Later in the same year a shop that we had been looking at for some time became available and so we moved. What a mammoth task that was!! We then opened 1st February 2023 at 18 Rother Street.
VTB is owned and managed by Karen & Steve.

Even though the toys are vintage, unless a collectors item, we believe the toys should be played with and enjoyed by all ages. If it makes you smile/happy, then it is worth having. Because of this, we don’t have toys graded. VTB is for all ages.
As vintage toys, unless they are new old stock; all the items are pre-loved. Saying that, a lot of them have spent their lives in a cupboard or an attic. It is re-using what is already out there and so saving on waste.
This follows on with our packaging for posting out. We always try to re-use boxes and packaging. Steve is responsible for all the packaging and prides himself on making sure items are securely packaged for a safe delivery.
